Shortwave Pricing and Shortwave Email Pricing per Seat for Every Plan
Shortwave is an AI email client built on top of Gmail. Its plans differ less by feature than by how much AI work you can do each day and which Claude model does it. We read shortwave.com/pricing, its FAQ and its billing guide on October 21, 2026 and priced every plan for one person and for teams.

New subscriptions are billed monthly only, with no annual discount and no one-time purchase. Paid plans start with a 14-day free trial, and Shortwave refunds a payment on request within 14 days. Everyone on a team must be on the same plan.

| Plan | Price per seat a month | AI model level | Daily AI requests (Standard) | AI search history |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Free | $0 | Basic (Claude Haiku 4.5) | Limited | 90 days |
| Pro | $18 | Standard (Claude Sonnet 4.6) | About 75 to 150 | 3 years |
| Business | $30 | Standard (Claude Sonnet 4.6) | About 150 to 300 | 5 years |
| Premier | $45 | Advanced (Sonnet 4.6 with adaptive thinking) | About 300 to 600 | Unlimited |
| Max | $120 | Expert (Claude Opus 4.6 with adaptive thinking) | About 900 to 1,800 | Unlimited |
The challenge
The seat price looks simple, but two rules decide the real bill. Each plan caps how many AI requests you get per day, and the cap shrinks when you pick a smarter model. And Shortwave bills a team on one plan, so giving a single heavy user Max moves every seat on the team to $120. Directories still quote older, lower prices and annual discounts that the vendor page no longer shows.
How AgentMarketplace handles it
Price Shortwave in three steps. Decide who needs the AI daily and how hard they will use it, because that picks the plan. Multiply that plan by every person on the team, since plans cannot be mixed. Then check what you actually want automated: Shortwave helps a person work their own inbox faster, and work that runs on its own (drafting, routing, follow-ups) is sold separately through its sister product Tasklet or by an agent.
How much does Shortwave cost?
Shortwave costs between $18 and $120 per seat a month, depending on the plan, and there is a Free plan at $0. The pricing page splits plans into two tabs. The Individual tab shows Free and Pro ($18, "personal users who just need the basics"). The Business tab shows Business ($30), Premier ($45, marked most popular) and Max ($120). All prices are in US dollars.
| Plan | Per seat a month | Per seat a year | Who Shortwave pitches it to |
|---|---|---|---|
| Free | $0 | $0 | Trying Shortwave, with a "Sent with Shortwave" signature on outgoing mail |
| Pro | $18 | $216 | Personal users who need the basics |
| Business | $30 | $360 | Everyday AI productivity |
| Premier | $45 | $540 | Advanced intelligence for complex workflows |
| Max | $120 | $1,440 | Shortwave's most powerful models and features |
The yearly column is simply twelve monthly payments, because that is how Shortwave bills. Its FAQ says it offers monthly billing and no one-time purchase, and its billing guide says "New subscriptions are billed monthly." Some price trackers, such as usagepricing.com, report that Shortwave raised every paid tier on June 30, 2026 (from $14, $24, $36 and $100), which is why older reviews quote lower numbers. The figures above are the ones Shortwave shows today.
Shortwave pricing plans compared on what each tier gets
Most of Shortwave's inbox features (splits, bundles, delivery schedules, todos, read statuses, snippets, follow-up reminders) appear on every paid plan. What climbs with price is the AI: the model behind the assistant, how many requests you get a day, how many email threads it can read at once and how far back AI search reaches.
| What changes | Free | Pro | Business | Premier | Max |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| AI model level | Basic | Standard | Standard | Advanced | Expert |
| Daily AI usage | Limited | Standard | More | 2x Business | 6x Business |
| Max threads per AI search | 15 | 50 | 50 | 100 | 150 |
| Context tokens for answers | Limited | Standard | Standard | 2x | 3x |
| AI-powered search history | 90 days | 3 years | 5 years | Unlimited | Unlimited |
| Standard search history | 90 days | Unlimited | Unlimited | Unlimited | Unlimited |
| AI filters (auto label, archive, star) | No | No | 3 | 10 | 50 |
| AI integrations (built in or over MCP) | No | No | Yes | Yes | Yes |
| Read statuses and team read statuses | No | No | Yes | Yes | Yes |
| Shared threads, team comments, assignees, shared labels | Yes | Yes | Yes | Yes | Yes |
| Remove "Sent with Shortwave" signature | No | Yes | Yes | Yes | Yes |
Shortwave names the models. Basic is Claude Haiku 4.5, Standard is Claude Sonnet 4.6, Advanced is Sonnet 4.6 with adaptive thinking and Expert is Claude Opus 4.6 with adaptive thinking. In practice, Business is the plan for a person who leans on AI search and replies every day, Premier is for someone who asks the assistant to work across long threads, and Max is for people who want Opus-level answers all day.
How does the Shortwave AI usage quota work?
Every request to the Shortwave AI assistant counts toward a daily quota, and the quota is the real difference between plans. Shortwave's FAQ gives approximate daily numbers at the Standard level: Pro about 75 to 150 requests, Business 150 to 300, Premier 300 to 600 and Max 900 to 1,800. Advanced mode uses 1.5x the quota and Expert mode 3x. Requests at the Basic level do not count at all.
Because the multipliers stack with the plan, the number of "smart" requests is lower than the headline. These are our calculations from Shortwave's published ranges.
| Plan | Requests a day at its top model level | Requests a month at full use (30 days) | Seat price per request at full use |
|---|---|---|---|
| Pro, Standard | 75 to 150 | 2,250 to 4,500 | $0.004 to $0.008 |
| Business, Standard | 150 to 300 | 4,500 to 9,000 | $0.0033 to $0.0067 |
| Premier, Advanced (1.5x) | 200 to 400 | 6,000 to 12,000 | $0.0038 to $0.0075 |
| Max, Expert (3x) | 300 to 600 | 9,000 to 18,000 | $0.0067 to $0.0133 |
The ranges are wide because Shortwave says usage "varies based on the complexity of the request": more integrations, broader searches, more tools and longer conversations burn more. To check where you stand, Shortwave tells users to ask the assistant "How much quota have I used?". The practical takeaway is that Max buys you Opus, not volume. Run Max at Standard level and you get roughly 900 to 1,800 requests a day, but at Expert level it is closer to Premier's Standard allowance.
What Shortwave costs a team of 3, 5, 10 and 25
Shortwave bills per person on a team, and its billing guide is explicit: "All team members must be on the same plan type." Seats you add mid-cycle are prorated, and removing a seat gives a prorated credit on the next bill. These are our calculations on Shortwave's list prices.
| Team size | Business, a year | Premier, a year | Max, a year |
|---|---|---|---|
| 3 people | $1,080 | $1,620 | $4,320 |
| 5 people | $1,800 | $2,700 | $7,200 |
| 10 people | $3,600 | $5,400 | $14,400 |
| 25 people | $9,000 | $13,500 | $36,000 |
The same-plan rule is the number to watch. A 10-person team on Business pays $3,600 a year. If two of those people want Max for Opus answers, the team cannot mix plans inside one team, so the whole team moves to Max at $14,400 a year, four times the bill for two upgrades. The workaround Shortwave's own rules allow is separate teams with separate billing, which also splits shared labels and shared threads.
One thing works in your favor. A single paid seat covers all of your own email accounts: Shortwave says to sign the extra accounts in on the same device, and warns not to add your own extra accounts to a team, because "Teams are only for paying for other people."
Does Shortwave have an annual plan or a discount?
No annual plan is offered on Shortwave's pricing page today. Its FAQ answers "Do you offer a one-time purchase?" with "We offer monthly billing", and the billing guide says new subscriptions are billed monthly, upfront, on the date you first upgraded. Some directories still describe annual prices about 20% lower. Those reflect older terms, so confirm at checkout before you budget on them.
What Shortwave does offer is a 14-day free trial on paid plans, and it recommends trialing the highest plan you are interested in, because you can switch to any plan before the trial ends. After you pay, it refunds the payment in full if you ask within 14 days. To get one, you downgrade to Free first and then contact support.
Does Shortwave work with Outlook?
Not directly. Shortwave connects natively to Gmail and Google Workspace accounts only. Its FAQ says Outlook, Fastmail, Yahoo and other providers can be used by first connecting them to a Gmail account, which means forwarding or importing that mail into Gmail. For a US company that runs on Microsoft 365, that is a real cost to weigh: the team would need Google accounts to use Shortwave at all.
If your mail lives in Microsoft 365, compare tools that work on Outlook as it is. Our AI agents for Outlook page covers agents that sort, draft and route inside an Outlook or Exchange mailbox, and the Microsoft 365 agents page covers the wider Copilot stack.
What Shortwave plus Tasklet costs for email automation
Shortwave's AI filters label, archive or star new mail, but anything that runs on its own beyond that (drafting replies automatically, adding team comments, connecting to 3,000 apps) is pointed to its sister product, Tasklet. Tasklet is priced separately on tasklet.ai, which we read on October 21, 2026.
| Tasklet plan | Monthly price | Credits a month | Team members |
|---|---|---|---|
| Free | $0 | Limited trial credits | One agent to start |
| Starter | $25 | 10,000 | Unlimited, one shared pool |
| Pro | $100 | 40,000 | Unlimited, one shared pool |
| Custom | From $250 | From 100,000, up to 4,000,000 for $10,000 | Unlimited, one shared pool |
Tasklet's monthly ladder works out to a flat $0.0025 a credit at every size, and one-time top-ups cost $5 per 1,600 credits (about $0.0031 each) with a $25 minimum, valid for a year. So a 5-person team on Shortwave Business plus Tasklet Starter pays $150 plus $25, or $2,100 a year, for a faster inbox and an automation layer on top.
Shortwave pricing compared with other AI email tools
Shortwave is an email client, so the closest comparisons are other clients and inbox assistants that sit on top of Gmail or Outlook. This table uses each vendor's own pricing page for the plan a small team would buy.
| Tool | Entry team price | How it bills | Works on Outlook as is | 5 people for a year |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Shortwave Business | $30 a seat a month | Per seat, monthly only, one plan per team | No, Gmail and Workspace only | $1,800 |
| Superhuman Mail Business | $33 a month annual, $40 monthly | Per member, a full email client | Yes | $1,980 |
| Fyxer Pro | $37 a month annual, $49 monthly | Per seat, credit allowance | Yes | $2,220 |
| Carly Organization | $35 a seat a month | Per seat, pooled credits | Yes | $2,100 |
| AgentMarketplace Starter | $24 a month yearly, $49 monthly | Per plan, up to 3 agents, no seat charge | Yes | $288 |
Shortwave is read on October 21, 2026, Carly on October 19, Fyxer and Superhuman on October 15. For the full Fyxer rate card see Fyxer pricing, for Carly's credit add-ons see Carly AI pricing, and for a side-by-side of the two most-compared tools see Fyxer vs Superhuman pricing. The inbox clients are bought per person because each person gets a faster inbox. The last row is priced differently because it buys a process, not a seat.
Is Shortwave worth it for a small business?
Shortwave is worth it for people who live in Gmail and want AI search across years of mail, quick drafted replies and a cleaner inbox. At $30 a seat, one saved hour a month covers it for most US knowledge workers, and the Business tier adds AI filters, AI integrations and read statuses on top of the shared threads, comments and assignees every plan already has.
It is a weaker buy in three cases. Teams on Outlook have to route mail through Gmail first. Teams where only one or two people need Opus pay Max for everyone. And teams whose real problem is volume (a support@ or sales@ inbox that nobody owns) still need a person to open the client and work the queue.
That last case is where a ready-made agent costs less. In our catalog the Inbox Triage agent sorts and labels a shared inbox, drafts replies for one-click send and routes the rest to the right person in Slack, and the Meeting Scribe turns call transcripts into notes and follow-ups. The Starter plan is $49 a month, or $288 for the year, for up to 3 deployed agents, with the whole team invited at no seat charge. Keep Shortwave if your team wants a better email client, and add an agent for the work that should happen without anyone opening it. Frequently asked
Your questions about Shortwave pricing
How much does Shortwave cost per month?
Shortwave costs $18 a seat a month on Pro, $30 on Business, $45 on Premier and $120 on Max, and the Free plan is $0. Every paid plan is billed monthly, upfront, per person on the team. There is no annual discount or one-time purchase on Shortwave's pricing page.
Is Shortwave free?
Shortwave has a Free plan at $0 with Basic intelligence (Claude Haiku 4.5), a limited AI quota, 90 days of search history, 15 threads per AI search and a "Sent with Shortwave" signature on outgoing mail. Shortwave says it does not show ads or sell your data on the Free plan.
Does Shortwave offer a free trial?
Yes. Paid plans start with a 14-day free trial, and Shortwave recommends trialing the highest plan you might want, since you can switch plans before the trial ends. After paying, you can get a full refund within 14 days by downgrading to Free and contacting support.
What is the difference between Shortwave Business and Premier?
Premier ($45) uses Advanced intelligence, Claude Sonnet 4.6 with adaptive thinking, and gives about twice Business's daily AI usage, 100 threads per AI search instead of 50, twice the context tokens, unlimited AI search history instead of 5 years and 10 AI filters instead of 3. Business costs $30.
Can different people on a Shortwave team have different plans?
No. Shortwave's billing guide says all team members must be on the same plan type, so upgrading one person upgrades the whole team. Ten people on Business cost $3,600 a year, and the same ten on Max cost $14,400. Separate teams with separate billing are the only way to mix plans.
Does one Shortwave plan cover several email accounts?
Yes. One paid seat gives paid features to all of your own accounts if you sign them in on the same device as your paid account. Shortwave says not to add your own extra accounts to a team, because teams are only for paying for other people.
Does Shortwave support Outlook?
Only through Gmail. Shortwave connects natively to Gmail and Google Workspace. Outlook, Fastmail, Yahoo and other accounts can be used by first connecting them to a Gmail account. A Microsoft 365 company would need Google accounts for every Shortwave user.
Is there a cheaper alternative to Shortwave for a team?
For shared inbox work, a tool that does not bill per seat costs less. Five people on Shortwave Business pay $1,800 a year. Our Starter plan is $288 a year for up to 3 agents, such as an inbox triage agent for a shared mailbox, with the whole team invited at no seat charge.
