Gemini CLI Pricing and Gemini Code Assist Pricing for Standard and Enterprise Seats
Gemini CLI and Gemini Code Assist are now one purchase. Since June 18, 2026, Google only serves Gemini CLI to Code Assist Standard and Enterprise licenses and to paid API keys, so the CLI question is really a seat question. We read Google Cloud's pricing page, the Gemini API rate card and Google's own transition notice on October 7, 2026 and priced it for a US engineering team.

Gemini Code Assist Standard costs $19 per user per month on a 12-month commitment or $22.80 month to month, and Enterprise costs $45 or $54. Both include Gemini CLI, with 1,500 agent and CLI requests per user per day on Standard and 2,000 on Enterprise. Free individual access and Google AI Pro and Ultra stopped working in Gemini CLI on June 18, 2026; those users moved to Antigravity CLI. Past the daily cap there is no overage bill, you switch to a paid Gemini API key and pay per token.
At a glance
Gemini Code Assist pricing per user, US list read from cloud.google.com/gemini/pricing and the Gemini Code Assist quota docs on October 7, 2026
| Edition | 12-month commitment | Monthly commitment | Gemini CLI and agent requests per day | Beyond the daily cap |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Code Assist Standard | $19 per user a month ($228 a year) | $22.80 per user a month | 1,500 per user | No overage billing, switch to a paid API key |
| Code Assist Enterprise | $45 per user a month ($540 a year) | $54 per user a month | 2,000 per user | No overage billing, switch to a paid API key |
| Paid Gemini API key | Not applicable | Pay per token | Varies by model and tier | Billed per token |
| Free individual, Google AI Pro or Ultra | Not applicable | Not applicable | Not served since June 18, 2026 | Moved to Antigravity CLI |
The challenge
Most Gemini CLI pricing pages still describe a generous free tier with 1,000 requests a day. That ended on June 18, 2026, when Google stopped serving Gemini CLI and the Code Assist IDE extensions to free individual users and to Google AI Pro and Ultra subscribers. Google's own pages do not agree with each other yet: the CLI quota doc still lists the free tier, while the CLI plans page and the May 19 transition post say it was replaced. Budgets built on the free tier are now wrong, and so are the old Google Developer Program bundles that included a Code Assist license.
How AgentMarketplace handles it
Decide by how often each developer runs agent work. Anyone who uses Gemini CLI or agent mode most workdays belongs on a Standard seat on an annual term, which costs $228 a year and caps out at 1,500 requests a day. Move people to Enterprise only for code customization on your private repos, Apigee, Application Integration or Cloud Assist, or for the higher 2,000 request cap. Keep a paid Gemini API key for occasional users and for overflow, because past the daily cap the license simply stops and the API key bills per token.
How much does Gemini Code Assist cost?
Gemini Code Assist Standard costs $19 per user per month on a 12-month commitment and $22.80 on a monthly commitment. Enterprise costs $45 and $54. All subscriptions are billed monthly, and you buy licenses in the Gemini Admin console inside Google Cloud or through Google's sales team for a custom quote. Google actually publishes the fee as an hourly rate, $0.026027397 an hour for Standard on the annual term, which multiplies out to exactly $228 over the 8,760 hours in a year.
Here is what the list prices add up to for the team sizes most US engineering managers budget for:
| Edition and term | 1 developer, per year | 10 developers, per month | 10 developers, per year | 50 developers, per year |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Standard, 12-month commitment | $228 | $190 | $2,280 | $11,400 |
| Standard, monthly commitment | $273.60 | $228 | $2,736 | $13,680 |
| Enterprise, 12-month commitment | $540 | $450 | $5,400 | $27,000 |
| Enterprise, monthly commitment | $648 | $540 | $6,480 | $32,400 |
The annual term saves 16.7% on both editions: $45.60 per Standard seat a year and $108 per Enterprise seat. A 50-developer Enterprise rollout on monthly terms costs $5,400 a year more than the same seats on the annual commitment, which is the first number to put in front of finance.
Gemini CLI pricing since the June 18, 2026 change
On May 19, 2026 Google announced that Gemini CLI is being folded into Antigravity CLI, and on June 18, 2026 Gemini CLI and the Gemini Code Assist IDE extensions stopped serving requests for Google AI Pro and Ultra subscribers and for anyone using Gemini Code Assist for individuals free of charge. Organizations with a Code Assist Standard or Enterprise license kept their access unchanged, and Gemini CLI stays usable with paid Gemini API keys and Gemini Enterprise Agent Platform keys. Personal accounts that moved to Antigravity now pay through Google AI plans, which our Google Antigravity pricing page breaks down by tier. So who can still run Gemini CLI, and on what bill, depends entirely on the account you sign in with:
| How you sign in | What you pay | Gemini CLI requests per user per day | Status |
|---|---|---|---|
| Workspace or Cloud account with Code Assist Standard | $19 to $22.80 per user a month | 1,500 | Supported |
| Workspace or Cloud account with Code Assist Enterprise | $45 to $54 per user a month | 2,000 | Supported |
| Paid Gemini API key (AI Studio) | Per token, no monthly minimum | Set by API rate limits | Supported |
| Gemini Enterprise Agent Platform (formerly Vertex AI) | Per token, or provisioned throughput | Dynamic shared quota | Supported |
| Personal Google account, free Code Assist for individuals | $0 | None | Stopped June 18, 2026, use Antigravity CLI |
| Google AI Pro or Ultra | Consumer subscription | None in Gemini CLI | Stopped June 18, 2026, use Antigravity CLI |
Two Google pages still contradict this, which is why so many third-party guides are wrong. The Gemini CLI quota and pricing doc still lists 1,000 free requests a day for individuals and 1,500 and 2,000 for AI Pro and Ultra, while the Gemini CLI plans page carries a banner saying unpaid and Google One users were replaced by Antigravity CLI on June 18. We follow the transition notice and the plans banner. The Google Developer Program is no longer a back door either: its Premium tier is now Google AI Pro at $19.99 a month and lists Antigravity and a $10 monthly cloud credit, not a Code Assist license.
Gemini Code Assist Standard vs Enterprise pricing
Enterprise costs $26 more per seat on the annual term ($45 against $19), and the extra money buys a defined list of features rather than a better model. Both editions run Gemini CLI and agent mode, both carry Google's generative AI indemnification, and both have local codebase awareness with a 1,000,000 token context window.
| Capability | Standard | Enterprise |
|---|---|---|
| Code completion, generation and chat in VS Code and JetBrains IDEs | Yes | Yes |
| Agent mode and Gemini CLI | Yes, 1,500 requests per user per day | Yes, 2,000 requests per user per day |
| Code completion and generation requests per day | 6,000 | 6,000 |
| Gemini in Firebase, BigQuery data insights, Colab Enterprise, Cloud Run code completion, database assistance | Yes | Yes |
| Enterprise-grade security and generative AI indemnification | Yes | Yes |
| Code customization on your private repositories (up to 20,000 repos) | No | Yes |
| Gemini in Apigee and in Application Integration | No | Yes |
| Gemini Cloud Assist (design, investigations, database troubleshooting, Firebase crash analysis) | No | Yes |
| Price per user per month, annual and monthly | $19 and $22.80 | $45 and $54 |
The practical test is simple. If your developers mostly need completions, chat and the CLI, Standard is the right seat and the extra 500 daily requests on Enterprise are not worth $26 a month to most of them. Enterprise pays when code customization on your own repositories matters, or when the team builds APIs in Apigee or runs production on Google Cloud and wants Cloud Assist investigations. Many organizations split the two: Enterprise for the platform team, Standard for everyone else.
Is Gemini CLI cheaper on a license or a paid API key?
For anyone who uses it most workdays, the license wins by a wide margin. A paid API key bills every model request at Google's per-token rate, and an agent prompt in Gemini CLI usually triggers several model requests. Paid tier rates per 1 million tokens, from the Gemini API pricing page:
| Model | Input | Cached input | Output, including thinking | Note |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Gemini 3.1 Pro Preview | $2.00 | $0.20 | $12.00 | Prompts up to 200,000 tokens; $4.00 and $18.00 above that |
| Gemini 3.8 Flash | $0.75 | $0.075 | $3.75 | Through December 31, 2026, then $1.50 and $7.50 |
| Gemini 3.5 Flash | $1.50 | $0.15 | $9.00 | Standard rate |
| Gemini 2.5 Pro | $1.25 | $0.125 | $10.00 | Prompts up to 200,000 tokens |
To turn that into a budget we assumed a typical CLI model request sends 40,000 input tokens, 30,000 of them cached, and returns 1,000 output tokens. That profile is our own estimate, not a Google figure, and it leaves out cache storage charges. On it, one request costs about $0.038 on Gemini 3.1 Pro and about $0.0135 on Gemini 3.8 Flash at the current promotional rate.
| Usage per developer | Requests a month | API key on 3.1 Pro | API key on 3.8 Flash | Standard license, annual |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Occasional, 10 requests a workday | 210 | About $8 | About $2.80 | $19 |
| Break-even against the annual license | 500 on Pro, about 1,400 on Flash | $19 | $19 | $19 |
| Daily user, 100 requests a workday | 2,100 | About $80 | About $28 | $19 |
| Heavy user near the cap, 1,500 a day | 31,500 | About $1,197 | About $425 | $19 |
The license is a flat fee with a hard daily ceiling, and that ceiling is generous. The break-even sits around 500 Pro-model requests a month, roughly 24 per workday. Above that, every extra request on the license is free until the 1,500 cap. Keep API keys for contractors, occasional users and CI jobs that run a handful of prompts, and give a Standard seat to anyone who opens the CLI every day. When the Gemini 3.8 Flash promotion ends on January 1, 2027, its per-request cost doubles, which moves the Flash break-even down to about 700 requests a month.
Gemini Code Assist pricing compared with GitHub Copilot, Cursor, Claude Code and Kiro
Seat prices for the tools US teams most often shortlist next to Gemini Code Assist, read from each vendor's pricing page between September 25 and October 7, 2026. The bigger difference is what happens when a developer runs out, so read the fourth column before the second.
| Tool | Team seat, per user per month | 10 developers, per year | What happens past the allowance | Prerequisite or sign-in |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Gemini Code Assist Standard | $19 annual, $22.80 monthly | $2,280 annual, $2,736 monthly | Hard daily cap, no overage bill, switch to an API key | Google Cloud billing account |
| GitHub Copilot Business | $19 with 1,900 AI credits | $2,280 | $0.01 per AI credit, pooled across the org, on by default | Any GitHub organization plan; SAML SSO needs Enterprise Cloud |
| Claude Team Standard (Claude Code) | $25, or $20 billed annually | $2,400 annual, $3,000 monthly | Session and weekly limits, Premium seat for more | None |
| Kiro Pro | $20 | $2,400 | Add-on or overage credits at $0.04, double the plan rate | AWS IAM Identity Center on the team setup |
| Cursor Teams Standard | $40, or $32 billed annually | $3,840 annual, $4,800 monthly | On-demand usage at model API rates | None |
Gemini Code Assist Standard on an annual term ties GitHub Copilot Business for the cheapest seat on the list. It is also the only one of the five with no usage bill at all: the worst case is that a developer hits 1,500 requests in a day and stops until tomorrow. Copilot does the opposite, keeping developers working and billing every credit past the pool. Which behavior you want is a finance decision as much as an engineering one. Full detail on each rival is on our GitHub Copilot Enterprise pricing, Cursor pricing, Claude Code pricing and Kiro pricing pages, and we ran a full team comparison in Gemini Code Assist vs GitHub Copilot pricing.
What a real Gemini Code Assist budget looks like
| Buyer | Usage pattern | Cheapest setup | Monthly cost |
|---|---|---|---|
| Solo consultant on a personal Google account | About 20 CLI requests a workday on Flash | Paid Gemini API key | About $6 at the current Flash rate |
| 10-person product team on Google Cloud | Daily CLI and agent mode, completions all day | 10 Standard seats, annual term | $190 |
| Same team, 10 developers on API keys only | 100 requests a workday on 3.1 Pro | Paid API keys | About $800 |
| 40-person engineering org with a platform team | 5 platform engineers on Apigee and Cloud Run, 35 app developers | 5 Enterprise and 35 Standard, annual | $890 |
| Contractor pool | A few prompts a week each | Shared project API key with a budget alert | Under $5 per contractor |
The third row is the expensive mistake. A team that runs Gemini CLI on API keys because "it was free last year" pays about four times the Standard license once usage becomes daily. Put daily users on seats, keep the key for everyone else.
When a ready-made AI agent costs less than a Code Assist seat
Gemini Code Assist earns its price on writing and changing code. A lot of agent work around a codebase is different: reviewing every pull request, triaging new bug reports, keeping API docs current. Those jobs run the same way every week, and spending developer seats and daily request caps on them is the costly way to do them.
The coding agents on AgentMarketplace, including a pull request reviewer, a bug triager and a docs writer, start at $49 a month flat, connect to GitHub and your tracker with permissions you can revoke, and never bill per token or stop at a daily cap. Browse the agent catalog by job before you buy extra Enterprise seats for it, and keep the Code Assist licenses for the developers writing the code. If you are weighing per-seat against per-token pricing across vendors, our AI agent platforms guide puts them side by side.
Frequently asked
Your questions about Gemini Code Assist pricing
How much does Gemini Code Assist cost?
Gemini Code Assist Standard costs $19 per user per month on a 12-month commitment or $22.80 on a monthly commitment. Enterprise costs $45 or $54. Subscriptions are billed monthly and bought in the Gemini Admin console in Google Cloud, or through Google sales for a custom quote.
Is Gemini CLI still free?
Not for most people. On June 18, 2026 Google stopped serving Gemini CLI to free Gemini Code Assist for individuals users and to Google AI Pro and Ultra subscribers, and moved them to Antigravity CLI. Gemini CLI now runs on Code Assist Standard or Enterprise licenses and on paid Gemini API or Agent Platform keys.
How much does Gemini CLI cost for a team?
For a team, Gemini CLI costs the price of a Gemini Code Assist seat: $19 per developer per month on Standard with an annual term, which allows 1,500 CLI and agent requests per developer per day. Ten developers cost $2,280 a year. Enterprise raises the cap to 2,000 requests for $45 a seat.
What happens when you hit the Gemini CLI daily limit?
Requests stop until the daily quota resets. Code Assist licenses have no overage billing, so there is no surprise charge. To keep working, sign in to Gemini CLI with a paid Gemini API key or a Gemini Enterprise Agent Platform project, which bills per token with no daily license cap.
Is Gemini Code Assist Enterprise worth it over Standard?
Only if you need its extra features. Enterprise adds code customization on your private repositories, Gemini in Apigee and Application Integration, Gemini Cloud Assist and 2,000 instead of 1,500 daily agent requests. For completions, chat and the CLI alone, Standard at $19 does the same job as Enterprise at $45.
Does Google AI Pro include Gemini CLI?
No longer. Google AI Pro and Ultra stopped working in Gemini CLI on June 18, 2026. Those subscriptions now cover Antigravity CLI and the Antigravity desktop app instead. The Google Developer Program Premium tier is Google AI Pro at $19.99 a month and no longer bundles a Code Assist license.
Is Gemini Code Assist cheaper than GitHub Copilot?
On the annual term they tie at $19 per user per month. Gemini Code Assist Standard costs $22.80 month to month. The difference is overage: Copilot Business bills $0.01 per AI credit past a pooled allowance, while Gemini Code Assist never bills overage and stops at the daily request cap.
Can I pay for Gemini Code Assist monthly?
Yes. Both editions come with a monthly or a 12-month commitment, and both are billed monthly. The monthly commitment costs 20% more per month than the annual one: $22.80 against $19 on Standard and $54 against $45 on Enterprise.
