What decides your bill is how many credits your flows burn, and AI steps burn far more than ordinary ones: a step on a fast model costs 2 credits, a smart model 10 and a frontier model 20. A flow that looks like one credit a run can quietly become eleven. Teams that price Activepieces from the headline $20 are often surprised the first time they connect a model.

How do Activepieces credits work?
A normal flow run costs one credit, however many steps it contains. AI is the exception, because Activepieces pays the model provider for you. The rates below come from the pricing page FAQ.

The AI credits stack on top of the run credit, so a run with one smart model step is about 11 credits. On Plus that is roughly 900 runs a month inside the allowance. Connecting your own AI keys drops that run to 2 credits, about 5,000 runs, but you then pay the model provider directly.
When does Activepieces Team beat Plus?
Plus costs $20 for 10,000 credits and charges $0.007 for each one after that. Team costs $200 for 50,000. The two bills cross at about 35,700 credits a month: below that, Plus plus overage is cheaper, and above it Team wins.

Credits are only part of it. If you have more than 5 people building, need SSO, or want email support instead of the community forum, Team is the plan whatever the credit math says. Upgrades and added seats take effect immediately and are prorated, and downgrades apply at the end of the billing period.

Can you self-host Activepieces for free?
Yes. Activepieces publishes a Community Edition that you can run on your own servers, and its pricing page lists hosting as cloud or on-premises on every plan. Self-hosting decides where Activepieces runs, not what the plans add. Paid plans add access control, an audit trail, team separation and support, which matter once more than a couple of people depend on the automations. Enterprise control, for air-gapped or fully self-managed deployments, is custom priced, and the Embed product for white-labelling a builder inside your own app starts from $36,000 a year.
Running it yourself also moves work onto your team: updates, backups, security patches and uptime. For a small business, that engineer time is usually worth more than the $20 a month you would save.
Is Activepieces worth it for a small business?
Activepieces is good value if someone on the team is happy to build flows. Plus at $20 a month covers five users, unlimited flows and agents, and bringing your own AI keys keeps model costs visible. It is a weaker buy when nobody wants to build.
